Tooth Temple

Sri Lanka Diary Continues
Tooth Temple
Day: 3
Place: Kandy

Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic is a Buddhist temple in the city of KandySri Lanka. It is located in the royal palace complex of the former Kingdom of Kandy, which houses the relic of the tooth of Buddha. Since ancient times, the relic has played an important role in local politics because it is believed that whoever holds the relic holds the governance of the country. Kandy was the last capital of the Sri Lankan kings and is a UNESCO world heritage site partly due to the temple. It’s built over a very large area and has

many buildings inside it such as a School, Golden canopy, Royal Palace, Audience Hall, National Museum, Kandy Lake and many more. Complete story of Buddha’s tooth is written inside the temple- According to Sri Lankan legends, when the Lord Buddha died, his body was cremated in a sandalwood pyre at Kusinagara, India and his left canine tooth was retrieved from the funeral pyre.

When we were moving towards our next destination-Golden Temple, Dambulla, we stopped by one of the many botanical gardens on the way. Since country is famous for natural herbs, hence we can find a lot of gardens, natural

cosmetics etc. It was too good so we purchased few cosmetics from there-a cream and an oil costing total of 500 INR, sounds costly right, but it was given us after a lot of discounts. So if you plan to spend a lot on cosmetic items, then only buy something from such gardens. We reached Golden Temple and started climbing on the rock without any other thought. Once we reached at top, two things happened simultaneously-we got to knew that only Sri Lankans are allowed without a ticket and it started raining, now we were trapped above the mountain, can’t go down since it was raining neither go inside temple due to ticket, obviously we tried to convince the ticket collector to give us

a ticket there itself but he was a person of non negotiation, even the tickets were very costly-750 INR. So it was useless for us to to go all the way down, get costly ticket and come back, so we moved to next location, which again was closed as we reached late evening. Hence we had to call it a day; it was useless to stay at Dambulla so we again started riding to Colombo, next day’s spot.

Corporate Chai

One fine day I was discussing with my colleagues and thought of writing a post on the National Drink of India-CHAI. Since we were sitting in a corporate, it becomes-Corporate Chai, so four IT people are on break, what you think they are gonna talk about, think think think….think one more time…..

Yes, you are absolutely correct first of all the things in the world, they will talk about office politics, and they should not be blamed, because the small ODC, small office, ittusi building becomes their world, they cant think of anything else but office, they will discuss topics such as
who escalated whom, who cant digest without sending an escalation, who is cartoon of team, who is silent killer, who fights with everyone, who is having affairs, who is playboy/girl, who is too much workaholic that he wants his bed to move in ODC, who does not work at all and puts all the work pressure on others, who is going to file paper, who is too much kanjus, that on asking money will give us chillars, who keeps on sleeping, who keeps buttering leads, who is going to fly(onsite), who is going to ran away, who keeps on bugging with silly stuff, who keeps on asking silly Qs in mails (“may I know why.......”), cant they ask directly, after all everyone is sitting in same ODC – next to each other, meetings, racism and what not sometimes these discussions goes to higher level-politics, gf-bfs, marriages, life, and a lot to tell. Sometimes people have this table only to get everything out of their minds especially about the team because they cant even share such small things to other people.

Enough about topics, let me introduce you to my tea group, we have got people of all kinds, one senior is their but never shows seniority and always prefer tea. We can call him dude of the group, who looks simple, but always ready to help others and has big contacts too. A person who knows how to socialize and take everyone to trips.
If we talk about politics, leader of group will get emotional, yes we are talking about Gandhi but of a different kind, normally he wont speak much as he will be busy in comparing his height or will be in his own thoughts. He is a true leader and prefers tea or juice of my choice.
Lets move to Rose of our group who will order daily same kind of stuff(sandwich and lemon), now-a-days cashier don't even ask her order. An ambitious one, who is not attached to any of the silly affairs of office, never cares about any mails. Even at tea table she won’t speak much, but she will understand our first joke when second one is over.
Last but not the least, ME, they call me an experimenter in juices, yes I like to try each and every type of juice that is available for example- Citrus-a mix of Orange, amla and lemon, or a mix of green chili and orange, yes Sir I have tried that too.

I hope you would have enjoyed and drank the corporate Chai with me, if you have not,
let’s have a cup of tea.

National Drink of India- Chai

Chai is such a great drink that it has seen a lot of stories, not only seen but created them. I am sure that you have also drink lot of chai in your life. I am writing this post to remind each one of you about those precious moments that you had while drinking the splendid drink-Tea. So close your eyes, relax and feel those moments for some time….

The cultivation of tea is India’s second largest industry. And India tea is the variety most commonly drunk the world over. People socialize while drinking tea; all sorts of matters are discussed at tea table from affairs to world politics and from India to Antarctica. Discussions on tea table vary and depend on a lot of factors such as generation, location, situation etc. Personally I don’t like to drink chai on a daily basis, but even then I had it for almost 2yrs and sometimes even 2 glass of tea in single meeting, but now I have left it or we can say its occasional now.  People who have been with me on tea table with me know these characteristics.

Learning

As per my understanding, Learning is a journey and in my journey I have learnt that every person should have some work to do all the time, he should not be free even for a moment or else we know that “khali dimag shaitan ka ghar hota hai”. In free time, people get distracted or get attracted towards wrong people/things, they may start intoxicating themselves, it’s a rare chance that they get a positive vibe and intend towards right things.

Now if we take this talk to slight upper level then one can say that there is nothing right or wrong in this world, its mere perception of an individual, that’s true. When I use the word “right”, I meant better for most persons, well we can leave this discussion as its above level for now.

What I wanted to tell is “Keep on doing something”, it will keep you busy. Have some aim in your life, and one you achieve that set another one to lead a good human life.

NOTE: This is my understanding, you may have a different angle, that’s your understanding and I am totally cool with it.
